The Duke

Specialities

Providing liquid refreshment and sustenance to the people of Dublin since 1822!

Grab a seat indoors, or soak up the city centre atmosphere on our heated smoking terrace.

Every Wednesday night at 8:30pm we have a great laugh upstairs with The Laughter Lines troupe, brilliant improv comedy show.

We show all major sporting events on our large screen in the bar and on televisions located throughout the pub.

We are also the starting point for the world famous Dublin Literary Pub Crawl which happens every evening at 7.30pm in the summer months (Apr – Oct) and from Thursdays to Sundays in the winter (Nov – Mar).

There are also private tours all year round.

History

Established in 1822.

The Duke has enjoyed a distinguished association with the literary greats of the Irish Nation.
James Stephens, James Joyce, Oliver St. John Gogarty and Arthur Griffith breezed into the Duke regularly in the early days of the century when they wanted a quiet reflective jar.
In later years, the three great literary musketeers, Brendan Behan, Patrick Kavanagh and Myles Na gCopoleen experienced a transitory love affair with the premises, although hardly ever at the same time as they were rarely enamoured with eachothers company for too long. As a general rule the presence of one was dictated by the absence of the other two.
Nowadays the organisers of the Dublin Literary Pub Crawl start their historic tour of Dublin at this establishment.
Today the Duke is still renowned for providing the caller with a place of quiet respite to enjoy a peaceful drink or some heartwarming food throughout the day.

Ciaran G.

Business Owner

The Duke is a family run pub, my father bought the pub back in 1988 and I have been in the business for the last 20 years. The pub was established back in 1822 and has some great history. We are very customer focused here. We treat every customer like a friend and do our best to make their time with us as enjoyable and memorable as possible!! My commitment to The Duke is to uphold the traditions of a true Irish pub, great drink, tasty food and superb service. When you enjoy working in this business as much as I do, you truly do not have to work a day in your life.
