Irish Jewish Museum Portobello

Specialities

The Museum traces the history of the Irish Jewish Community with reference to the people who have lived here in the past and present who have made a public contribution to life both in Ireland and abroad.
The Museum also features a fine restored Synagogue which operated on the premises from 1900 until 1971.
We are involved in education projects and welcome numerous school classes to the Museum where the students are made aware of the history of the Jewish people and the practises of day to day life.

History

Established in 1985.

The Museum was opened in 1985 and has been run by volunteers since that time. Since opening the Museum has acquired a large collection of community archives and objects and is currently raising funds to extend the premises to house this collection for both exhibition and research purposes.
